Holger Rune, 7º no ranking mundial e na disputa pelo ATP Finals, começou a defesa do título no Masters 1000 de Paris com uma vitória fácil sobre Dominic Thiem.
Num jogo que prometia muito, o dinamarquês acabou por se impondo com parciais de 6-4 e 6-2, após 1h30 minutos de jogo.
